Our Lady of Rescue at her Altar
XVIII century. Coloured wash, Pencil ground. Not on display
The image was venerated not in the Merced Calzada Convent but rather in the Trinidad Calzada Convent. According to Jerónimo de la Quintana, it was "..small...very beautiful, of bulk with carved clothing, although covered with silk and gold garments. She holds the Christ Child, extremely beautiful, seated on her left arm and giving him a rose with her other hand. This image was brought by Father Friar Diego de Ortigosa de Argel, rescued from the hands of a renegade and a Turk for the price of six reales [it came from Tenerife plundered by the Moors] and for this reason she was named Our Lady of Rescue".
It is probably by the same hand as D001944 and D001945.
