Saint Anthony heals the Dry Leg of the Man who beat his own Mother
1633.Not on display
The saint is depicted in the centre, accompanied by another friar. He blesses the young man who, supported by a crutch and helped by his mother on her knees, shows him his dry leg. Various figures contemplate the miracle.
It is a preparatory drawing for the painting of the predella of the altarpiece of the church of San Antonio de los Portugueses. Dated 1631–33 and now dismantled, this painting was produced immediately following the preparatory drawing. The Academy of San Fernando houses another analogous drawing that is perhaps of lesser quality.
