Saint Bruno (?) / Saint Martin and the Poor - Jesuit Saint
XVIII century.Not on display
Saint Bruno is depicted with one knee on the ground. He stretches out his arms in a contemplative gesture, before the kneeler, where a book, a skull and a candle rest. The background includes the nave of a church, with a monk reading and other bowed figures. José Camarón Bonanat (also called Boronat) worked extensively for the Carthusian Monastery of Porta Coeli, where in addition to decorating the church with frescoes on the Gospel, stories of Saint John the Baptist and Carthusian iconography, he painted a work on Saint Bruno in the Servants’ Church (Orellana, 1967, pp. 410-1). He also made a work on Saint Martin for the Church of Benicassim.
