The Divine Shepherdess / Boy Standing, with a Disc or Sphere
XVIII century. Red chalk. Not on display
The composition of this drawing is oval in shape. It depicts the Divine Shepherdess seated at the foot of a tree and at the edge of a stream. One lamb is on her lap, while two others are on either side of her.
On the verso of the drawing, the figure of a boy standing with a disc or sphere can be found, executed in pencil and white chalk.
The technique and appearance of the face evoke Corrado Giaquinto. The drawing may be by one of his imitators, such as José del Castillo or one of the Bayeus. However, attributing the work with precision is not easy.
