This is a preparatory drawing, together with D000409 and D003304, for the canvas The Holy Family (P005119) that belongs to the Museo del Prado and that was deposited in the Museo de Burgos. It was exhibited as a work by Mariano Salvador Maella in the ‘Exhibition of Drawings 1750–1860’ in 1922.
This study depicts the Virgin seated in the foreground, with the Christ Child in her arms. Behind them is Saint Joseph. The background is a wooded scene.
