The Immaculate Conception
XVII century.Not on display
The figure is depicted standing on the crescent moon with her hands together and her head slightly raised to the right of the drawing. Three cherubim accompany her and hold the palm branch, the sceptre and the mirror, symbols of the Marian litany. According to Pérez Sánchez (1972), the drawing is typical of 17th-century Madrid. Its resemblance to other confirmed drawings by Pedro Ruiz González allows it to be attributed to him, but with certain reservations. This attribution is rejected by López Sánchez (2007) in his catalogue on this artist.
