Various studies / Soldiers
XVII century.Not on display
These are studies of male figures in various positions. One of them is undoubtedly a study for a kneeling Saint Jerome. A fallen horse and several dead men are depicted. In the upper register, a man is bent over picking something up, while another kneels (possibly Saint Jerome). To the right, a standing man pulls a rope. Some sketches of soldiers are on the verso.
It is characteristic of his lighter, more nervous and careless style, with the zigzagging and crossed pen strokes in some areas, which he passed on to his pupil March and extends to the work of Conchillos. The signature with the monogram ‘P O’ is typical of his paintings.
