Antonio Raphael Mengs. The greatest painter of the 18th century

This monographic exhibition on the painter Anton Raphael Mengs (1728-1779), which benefits from the sole sponsorship of Fundación BBVA, will be the most important devoted to the artist to date. It will feature around 150 works, including important national and international loans, focused around a core of key works of the highest quality, the majority from the collections of the Museo del Prado and Patrimonio Nacional, complemented by international loans. The exhibition presents watercolors, pastels, drawings, oil paintings and the fresco Jupiter and Ganymede (Rome, Gallerie Nazionali d’Arte Antica Barberini Corsini, Palazzo Barberini), in addition to sculptures, medals and manuscripts. It will offer a complete vision of Mengs, his models and influences, highlighting his relationship with great masters such as Raphael, Correggio and Pompeo Batoni.
