Christ kneeling on the Cross
XVI century.Not on display
It is hard for the viewer to make out the cross lying on the ground, its from only loosely indicated in brush and wash and the contours not picket out in pen and ink. Cambiaso´s own drawing of the composition is in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, one of a sequence by the artist illustrating different scenes from the Crucifixion of Christ (inv. no. 1958.1163). Other, weaker studio versions of the same design are in Berlin (inv. no. KdZ 16029); and in the Capodimonte Museum, Naples (inv. no. 1041).
